Powder Coating

Founded in 2014, FX Powder Coating proudly serves Hurricane Valley and surrounding southern Utah with any powder coating project. We coat to the standards of the Powder Coat Institute, with quality and customer satisfaction as our #1 goal.

FX utilizes two different methods to pretreat parts based on customer preference. For the most corrosion-resistant coating available, we recommend all parts be media blasted. If media blasting is not required prior to coating, we utilize a 5-stage chemical pretreatment process.

We have a large variety of stock colors available and can order any custom color. Our natural gas oven is 8’ x 8’ x 20’ and is energy efficient. We coat a wide range of articles from grocery store shelving, to high-end wheels that are featured in car shows and magazines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to clean my parts before I bring them in?

No. We will prep your parts using one of two methods: media blasting or chemical treatment.

I have an existing coating; can you just powder coat over the top?

No. Surface preparation is the most important part of the powder coating process. Anything with a prior coating, mill scale, or surface rust needs to be stripped or media blasted before we can start the preparation process.

How long does powder coat last?

Many factors can determine the life of powder coating. Typically the powder manufacturer will warranty the powder for 1-2 years. But when applied correctly, powder typically will last for up to a decade of continued use, sometimes longer.

What is your average turn-around time?

We turn most jobs in 5-7 working days. Some jobs can be done even quicker, depending on the schedule load and if it’s a color we already have in stock.

What colors are available?

We offer a large variety of stock colors in many different sheens and textures. We can also order any color not in stock. Our main supplier has a color selection with more than 4,000 colors to choose from.

What is your pre-treatment process?

We use 3 different methods of pre-treatment and use each depending on the type of metal and what is on it. First, we do media blasting with an 80-grit steel to remove rust, coatings, or mill scale. Second, we can chemically strip more fragile parts to remove coatings but not alter the surface of the part. Third, we treat cold-rolled steel with Zirconium, which will put a chemical etching onto the steel that allows for better adhesion of the powder coating.

What types of things can be powder coated?

Short answer: anything metal that can withstand the heat of a 400 degree oven. For example: patio furniture, wheels, gates, railing, bumpers, UTV accessories, and anything made from steel or aluminum.

How much does powder coating cost?

Gates and railing are priced by the linear and square footage. Custom jobs are priced by job, depending on size, color, etc. No job is started without established pricing up front.
